What kind of apps can you built with no-code?dittofi
We often get asked, what kind of apps can be built with no-code?
Nowadays the answer to this question is almost always, yes!
No-code / low code or visual programming has reached such an advanced level that there is almost nothing that no-code cannot do.
To help understand what no-code can do, let’s start by separating out the different types of no-code platform in the market.
Four types of no-code
There are four types of no-code platform: frontend, backend, integration and full stack.
Each of these types of no-code lets you build a different part of your technology. A good way to visualize these different types is with a Venn diagram.
1. Frontend only builders
These are website and ecommerce builders. They range from block based visual builders down to the more modern tools like Webflow or Squarespace which give you more control over the positioning and styling of your elements. You can use these to build basic, landing pages, static websites with blogs and more complex ecommerce platforms.
Tools like Shopify let you build both a custom frontend and they give you a working ecommerce backend.
2. Database / backend only builders
Database / backend only builders allow you to create secure stores for your data. These builders let you work in a similar way to excel spreadsheets. The difference is that they give you more power and security. These platforms also allow you to perform certain types of logic on the data. For example, if we update a record in one table of data, this should update another record in another table of data. The main tools in this space are Airtable, Google Tables, Coda and so on.
3. Integration builders
Integration builders are the connective tissues that glue together different apps. You can use no-code integration builders to connect multiple apps together. For example, when a user signs up to your website, send an email to them welcoming them to the platform and also write them to your internal CRM system. The most common integration builders are Zapier and Integromat.
4. Full stack app builders
The no-code tools at the center of the Venn diagram are the full stack app builders. These are both the most complex but also the most flexible, allowing you to build all aspects of your technology stack without writing a line of code. Full stack app builders, like Dittofi, allow you to build enterprise grade apps.
The no-code stack
People will often talk about building apps on a “no-code stack”. This refers to when users combine multiple no-code platforms together to build an app. For example, users often combine a Webflow frontend with an Airtable backend. This will allow them to design a beautiful frontend and a place to store data, such as user sign ups.
Combining multiple no-code platforms into a stack is generally not recommended for a full scale app build. Although it can work, it makes your technology dependent on a collection of expensive and fragmented third party tools. It also is a highly complex way of building an app and will eventually run into limitations either in feature, data processing or the number of users your app can handle.
If you’re looking to build a full stack app, it is better to go with an all in one, full stack app builder.
At Dittofi we have built one such solution. We combine no-code and auto code generation technology giving you rapid development and powerful code.
Below are five example apps that can be developed on Dittofi’s no-code / auto code generation technology. Each app can be built using no-code, but also includes full access to the apps source code. Build, launch and iterate on your app without writing code. Export and own your code for maximum control as you scale.
1. Directory apps
Directory apps show business listings by categories to the audiences or app users. Some famous directory apps include Yelp, Bing Places, Google Business Profile etc.
2. Two sided marketplace apps
A two sided marketplace app is one that allows buyers and sellers to exchange a product or service. Famous examples include Airbnb, Uber, eBay, Zillo and Amazon.
3. Social media apps
Social media apps facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression through virtual communities and networks. The most well known examples include Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Linkedin, Pintrest and Reddit.
4. Video streaming apps
Video streaming is a technology that allows a user to view online video content over the internet without needing to download the media files first. There are several well known video streaming apps such as YouTube, Netflix and Vimeo.
5. Big data & AI apps
Big data analytics is the use of processes and technologies, including AI and machine learning, to combine and analyse massive datasets with the goal of identifying patterns and developing actionable insights.
For example, in 2022, we helped a rowing company in New York City build a system to process data from their rowing machines. The solution required us to process up to 10,000 real-time records per second, analyse the records and submit results back to the gyms where the rowing machines were installed – all of this had to happen in under 50 milliseconds.

With Dittofi you can build any type of app, for example fintech apps, music sharing apps, podcast sharing apps, workforce management apps, event management apps and so on. The above five apps are just a few examples.
